Thyroid peroxidase (TPO) is an enzyme produced by the thyroid gland that plays a crucial role in the production of thyroid hormones. 

Elevated TPOAb levels may indicate an autoimmune condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis, where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland.
