Lp(a)

Lipoprotein(a), also known as Lp(a), is a type of lipoprotein that is similar to LDL (low-density lipoprotein) but contains an additional protein called apolipoprotein(a) which plays a role in the development of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). 

High Lp(a) levels are a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, including: heart attack, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. Lp(a) levels are primarily determined by genetics, but other factors such as age, ethnicity, and smoking can also influence them.
